Keith Urban launched what seems to be the "50th" leg of his Love, Pain & The Whole Crazy Carnival Ride tour almost a month ago. He's won his Grammys, he has a beautiful wife, and he's tackled on some personal problems that almost derailed him. One thing that most people don't talk about is that Keith Urban makes his attempt (as everyone should) to do the little things that help.
I'm sure everyone can assume that any concert tour (with the fluorescent lights, big rigs, and gas hogging trucks) doesn't help the environment and probably are one of the worst contributors of carbon emissions in the summer (think of all the shows you've been to, and multiply that by a million).
For this leg of the tour, Mr. Urban (who by the way, was one of the few Country artist who performed at Live Earth) will debut a new line of T-shirts manufactured from recycled plastic bottles. Yes, recycled plastic bottles!
Produced by Chaser Merchandise, each article of clothing finds new use for as many as four plastic bottles which otherwise would simply sit in a landfill somewhere, taking up valuable space on the planet.
"While I am far from the greenest guy on the block, I do look for situations where I can make even a small difference," Keith says. "And so the idea that our concert T's could retain the same look and feel but be partly made from recycled materials appealed greatly to me. I believe making even a small contribution like this and running our trucks on bio-diesel can make a big difference."
Keith also currently has a charity auction up that benefits the "Land Trust For Tennessee", which protects the state's historical and natural landscapes.
Can this guy be any cooler? Oh yeah, I heard he ROCKS in concert.
On a completely selfish side note, I will be seeing Mr. Urban at the HP Pavilion in San Jose on Tue with my fellow do gooder, greenbean. I can't wait to get my eco friendly tour tshirt!

I like the point of view of "I can't do everything, but here's a start." When we try and think "green", it can seem so daunting and insurmountable, but in truth, it just takes one thing to make a difference. Way to go Keith, and RG, you have a blast at his concert.

I saw him in concert in Washington and his show was amazing! But that was two years ago, his tour this past year just didn't seem to have the same feeling although it was good too.
